Properties of ZnO/ZnAl2O4 composite PEO coatings on zinc alloy Z1

Recently the successful formation of PEO coatings on zinc in a phosphate aluminate electrolyte was shown. The produced composite contain various mixtures ZnO and ZnAl$_2$O$_4$. In frame current study, properties formed including adhesion/cohesion, wear, corrosion photocatalytic activity were analysed to identify possible applications. However, show internal porosity sponge-like structure. Thus cohesion within coating is quite low. Pull-off tests have demonstrated clear rupture layer at strength values as low 1 MPa. limited, spite higher amount shorter treatment times. Interestingly, amounts ZnAl$_2$O$_4$ spinel showed activity, but not sufficient for fast effective catalytic cleaning
